On the Winterly village green, you will find the beloved towering construct of wheat, bone and branch that stands sentinel over the village – affectionately known as the Strawman. After every harvest, tokens of the village’s bounty are laid at his feet, and it is said that young lovers lay under his branches to ensure a fruitful coupling.
