Spiel Des Jahres

The Spiel des Jahres is one of the most renowned awards in the board game world. Founded in 1978 in Germany, its influence now extends beyond the German borders. The jury for the award is made up of journalists and experts. They evaluate games on the basis of originality, rules, playability, presentation and game mechanics.

The nominated games are usually announced during the month of May and the prize is awarded in June or July at the latest.
