No Peace Without Honor uses the No Peace Without Spain system. The focus is on Louis XIV's carefully planned invasion of the Dutch Republic, which was planned as a short, sharp conflict similar to the War of Devolution. However, the conflict unexpectedly became a pan-European conflagration for which none of the participants were prepared.

In 1668, Louis XIV quickly seized the land at the expense of the Spanish Habsburgs. But in the peace talks that followed, Louis had to accept what he considered humiliating conditions. Although he retained the fortified city of Lille in Flanders, he had to give up his other conquests. The Dutch Republic played a key role in fighting Louis' expansionist plans, and he never forgave what he considered a betrayal by a former ally. His plans for revenge came to fruition in 1672. Through secret treaties, he managed to detach the United Provinces' allies, Sweden and England. While England would launch an invasion from the sea with the combined Anglo-French fleets, Louis himself would lead the main invasion, crossing the Rhine at the Dutch border at Lobith. But instead of a short, limited war, Louis XIV's adventure would lead to a European conflagration lasting nearly five decades.

This stand-alone game uses the No Peace Without Spain system. A new counter board provides additional leaders, such as the young Prince William of Orange, or the skilled Bourbon veterans Turenne and Condé. The Sun King himself, Louis XIV, may make an appearance. A new set of event cards features incidents such as the Ottoman threat to Austria, the colonial wars, and the Anglo-Dutch naval war. Players must not only compete against each other, but also deal with growing war weariness among their respective populations, which can trigger more political and economic events and eventually force you to come to the negotiating table, whether you are ready or not.

Can Louis XIV conquer the Dutch Republic in one quick campaign? Or will the French armies literally get bogged down in the flat country flooded by the Dutch? Will the young Prince of Orange be able to rally his people and forge a lasting coalition against his Bourbon enemies?

Although a complete game, No Peace Without Honor can be combined with Nine Years War and No Peace Without Spain, allowing players to re-enact the entirety of Louis XIV's wars in one large campaign from 1668 to 1713.

In many ways, No Peace Without Honor is the most accessible game in the NPWS series... a fast-paced game with many difficult decisions and just the right amount of chrome to make it authentic.
