Because of its small number of rules, Go is easy to understand, yet offers an infinite wealth of variations over the course of the game.
The game consists of a board and black and white pieces (called stones).
Each player receives stones of a single color, and must place them on the intersections of the board as the game progresses. The winner is the player who has conquered the most territories and stones from his opponent.
Traditionally, the game of go is played with 181 black pieces and 180 white pieces. Black has one more stone, as he makes the first move. The game is played on a square board with 19 vertical and 19 horizontal lines. The result is 361 intersections, all of which can be covered by the 361 pieces.
