We now set sail for the Pacific Ocean. From California to Japan, this peaceful sea is surrounded by roaring mountains. Animals, some of which are tourists, occupy every imaginable niche; boats dot the waves; and businesses and industries thrive on the coasts. This is the world you will exploit, befriend, or perhaps simply pass through.
In Pacific, each player has their own game board with five areas arranged in a circle: Japan, California, Peru, Polynesia, and the Coral Sea. To use a card, you must follow the instructions in the box, then “exploit” the 1 to 2 areas mentioned there.
Most cards have text such as “[area]: [symbols],” for example, “California: (hotel)” or “Each area: (fish)” or “An empty area: (boat)(boat),” so you must place the appropriate token(s) in the indicated area(s). The card may also include other text asking you to move tokens, exchange one token for another, “travel” through an area, etc.
To “exploit” an area, you perform an action with each token in it: hotels earn you money, boats earn you money based on the fish in the area, fish move clockwise to the next area, and factories allow you to remove tokens in exchange for money.
Special tokens have unique abilities, and you can perform these actions in any order you wish.
After ten rounds, the player with the most money wins.
