Andô Hiroshige (1797-1858) is one of the most famous Japanese printmakers of the Edo period (1603-1868) and one of the masters of the ukiyo-e movement ("images of the floating world") after Hokusai. These images are part of the popular culture of Japan but are collected as works in their own right in Europe during the 19th century. As an observer of nature, Hiroshige is mainly recognized as a landscape painter, playing with transparency and cultivating the theme of the seasons.
