Bamboo games are made up of 4 years or turns, themselves divided into 4 phases or seasons. On their turn, players burn incense in temples to curry favor with the spirits and use bamboo shoots to perform actions such as seeking balance, cooking, home improvement or managing finances.

To score balance tiles, you must use the balance action and follow the pattern indicated on the tile, which always relates to the type of house tiles you get during the game. There are four categories of house tiles: decoration, garden, faith or utility. Depending on how they place them on their board, players earn happiness points.

In addition to managing the house, players will need to prepare for difficult times. To get through the winter, they'll need to feed the family with tea, rice or ramen prepared and stored during the previous season. The player who makes the largest incense offering in each sacred space will receive the favors of one of the seven forest spirits, by way of thanks. Spirit tiles not only help players throughout the game, but also offer bonus points in the final phase, depending on the number of different spirits present in each player's play area.
