The players will fight to control the planet and the Warp. Each
player will take the role of one of the races that we will draft at the
beginning of the game. These races will give 2 special powers. Each game
will have a lot of replayability thanks to its modular board but also
thanks to the Great Guardian who will be randomly drawn for each game.
This Great Guardian will indicate how to gain VPs and how to beat him.
Players will also receive mission cards at the beginning of the game
that will give them extra VPs if they manage to complete them. The
exciting thing about The Warp is that even though it is a 4X game, the
game is a race between players because the first to reach 9 VPs ends the
game. When you know that a mission brings 2 VPs, you immediately see
the importance of succeeding!
In The Warp,
you will not only build units but also buildings that will produce
resources or allow you to exchange them for others. You will also be
able to play cards that will bring you more resources and draw new ones
from a common selection of face-up cards. Battles are done in the
classic way by rolling the dice according to the number of fighting
units and comparing the total values. There is also an ingenious little
multiplier system depending on which terrain tile the attacker is from
and where the defender is. Players will even have the possibility to
change the value of these tiles which can lead to some nice reversals.
Battles can also be supported by the play of combat cards.
