This new map depicts the planet Shaggai, wiped out centuries ago. This is, of course, the planet of origin of the Insects of Shaggai (who first appeared in Onslaught Two). Back then, the horrible hell-world Ghroth ventured too close to Shaggai and triggered the process that led to Shaggai's complete destruction. The map takes place, of course, at the time of Shaggai's eradication, represented by Ghroth's worms - horrible tools of doom that spread across the surface, leaving oblivion in their wake.

The map is divided into hexagonal zones, representing the insectile nature of the world's inhabitants. Some are oceans, others land, and the game begins with a single Ghroth worm - a harbinger of ruin.

As the game progresses, in each phase of Doom, existing Ghroth worms tend to annihilate the areas on which they are found, and new worms are created. Eradicated areas generate energy and can even benefit players. For example, if your controlled gate is eradicated, you gain a sign of the ancients. For each unit eradicated, you gain 1 Power. The power gain may not be enough to compensate for the loss of a big monster or a Great Elder, but it's at least useful.

And, after all, the destruction was telegraphed by the presence of a Worm - so you've had your chance to escape!

The Shaggai map has other fun elements. For example, you can "jump over" eradicated areas to gain easier access to the map. This costs a unit, however, so make sure you have someone cheap to sacrifice to the hungry void. What's more, if the map deteriorates too much, the game may come to an end, even if nobody has 30 Doom yet. In this case, all players add up their Doom and Signs of the Wise and determine who is victorious.
