Tropichaos is a game that involves collecting and selling fruit in a world where the seasons are out of whack, with winter completely absent and the other seasons following each other in random order. Players take on the role of fruit sellers and try to earn points by selling their fruit at the right time, during its peak season. The player with the most points wins the game.
During their turn, players can perform one of the following actions:
- Buy fruit. To do this, they take one fruit token from the three revealed fruit tokens to add to their inventory, then replace it by drawing a token from a bag.
If this results in three tokens of the same fruit being displayed on the market, they must replace one of them with a different fruit from their inventory and, as a penalty, take a deduction token.
If a season token is drawn, the season marker on the season board moves forward one space, then the player whose turn it is draws another token from the bag.
- Sell fruit. To do this, they place all the fruit tokens they want to sell in front of the colored area of their token holder corresponding to the current season. The number of tokens in their inventory determines the number of fruits they can sell.
If the number is odd, they must sell all their fruit tokens.
If the number is even, they can choose to sell all or half of their fruit tokens.
If a player has five tokens, they must choose to sell and cannot choose to buy.
The game ends when the season marker reaches the last space on the season board. Points are then calculated: each fruit is worth a different number of points depending on the season in which it was sold. The player with the most points wins!
