In Reaper for Hire , you replace Death as a part-time reaper. To get yourself paid 2 pieces of Styx, you must discard the Reap cards from your hand, if possible first.
Each Reap card has a damnation malus represented by one, two or three skulls marks.
The goal of the game is to end each round with the fewest skulls marks on your cards to increase your chances of being paid.
The first reaper to get 2 pieces of Styx wins the game. In turn, you can get rid of your Reap card either by playing them at the center ( Reap a soul action) or by passing them to opposing players (Rest in peace action).
When you play a Reap card at the center, the indicated value must correspond to the number of cards left in your hand at the end of your turn. Ex: you play a "4" value, you must have 4 cards left in hand. If you do not meet this condition and no one sees it, so much the better.
On the other hand, if you are denounced before another player has played, then you must draw 1 Reap card from the hand of an opposing player. then it’s the turn of the next player.
During the game, you will also be able to play wild cards to trigger effects like «Slaughter» (Death comes to discard and redo your hand) or like «Punishment» (to draw cards to several opposing players at the same time). A round stops when a player no longer has Reap cards in hand or when there are no more RIP cards to draw.
The player who has the fewest skulls marks on their cards receives a Styx victory token while the players who have the most skulls marks take a damnation token. Sounds bad huh ? however, In the next round, they will receive one Reap card less than you. We play in 3 rounds maximum. In case of a tie, the winner will be the one with the fewest damnation tokens. If the tie persists, the victory will go to the player who ended the 3rd round.
