Second-hand item - Good condition
79 BC. Sulla, dictator of Rome, is preparing to abdicate.
You play as a family that wants to seize power, but the task is not easy. While the people are civic-minded (they love their Republic), they are also hungry and enjoy gambling and bathing. You will have to "score points" (prestige points!) in all areas... Thus, Res Publica tokens—symbolizing these four areas—constantly fluctuate between crisis and ideal, while famine spreads if you are not careful. At the end of the game, the Res Publica tokens earned by the players will be worth more or fewer points depending on the position of the markers, while famine will cause you to lose points.
Each game turn is divided into seven phases:
I) First Consul: The First Consul for the upcoming turn is elected by the players, based on their Senators and, potentially, the money they wager.
II) Recruitment: Each player recruits a new character: Senators, Merchants, Legionaries, Vestal Virgins, and Slaves, some of whom are Christians.
III) Buildings: Players can purchase buildings using their character cards. These buildings provide advantages (prestige, money, Res Publica tokens, etc.).
IV) Income: Players collect their income.
V) Events: Players collectively fight with their Legionaries and Vestal Virgins against threats to Rome (the rise of the imperial cult, famine, slave revolt, decadence, etc.).
VI) Grand Project: Each turn, a Grand Project is undertaken by the players who wish to participate. Those who do not wish to participate in the project can gain prestige by making donations to the Plebeians. Grand Projects allow players to gain prestige and also positively influence the markers on the Res Publica track.
VII) Famine & Crises: Players must feed the people of Rome or lose prestige. Finally, if the tokens on the Res Publica track are in the crisis zone, crises can occur: players who have acted in the right direction will gain even more prestige.
The game ends after five rounds, with the arrival of Christianity: players have the opportunity to enhance their Christian characters and free their Slaves. They reveal their Res Publica tokens, which award prestige points. The player with the most prestige wins the game...
