Between 1945 and 1960, the British conducted four major "emergencies," as they called their counterinsurgency campaigns, each time attempting to manage their withdrawal from the empire.

The four games in this pack focus on exploring British counterinsurgency responses to a variety of different adversaries, including communist insurgents in Malaya, militant nationalists in Kenya, and smaller, more clandestine terrorist organizations in Palestine and Cyprus. The games adapt basic COIN mechanics to offer a new way to handle two-player conflicts, while streamlining several mechanics to speed up the game.

The British Way: Counterinsurgency at the End of Empire provides an accessible introduction to the COIN series for new players, while introducing experienced players to four mechanically distinct games to explore and compare.

Four complete games in one box :

  •     Explore four different conflicts set in the twilight of the British Empire in the 1940s and 1950s. Each game uses a unique set of rules based on the same general mechanical structure, ensuring ease of play while providing a distinctive experience.
  •     A new adaptation of the classic COIN system: An improved sequence of play for two players and a versatile Political Will track to determine victory.
  •     Unique mechanics reflecting the British approach to each conflict: New villages in Malaya, the "pipeline" in Kenya, curfews in Cyprus and mass detention in Palestine.
  •     A small board with fast but deep gameplay: Each game takes less than 90 minutes to play and is played on a single 17 x 22 inch board.
  •     An "end of empire" campaign: A campaign scenario allowing players to play all four games in a linked series with a cumulative scoring system, random "external" events related to British decolonization, and new mechanics to integrate each game into the campaign.
