In Splendor, you take on the role of a Renaissance merchant. You use your resources to acquire mines, means of transport and craftsmen to transform raw stones into magnificent jewels.
Incorporating anticipation and bluffing, Splendor shines for its simplicity and strategic depth. In Splendor, the players' objective is simple: to obtain the most prestige. If, at the start of the game, you have a meager nest egg of precious stones (represented as poker chips), you'll work with them to build your business empire.
A game can be played in half an hour. Each turn is quick and intuitive, and the active player must perform a single action. To obtain tokens, players must obey simple rules that force them to make delicate decisions. They will also have to acquire a development by combining bonuses and tokens, or reserve a card. The beauty of the game lies in the fact that players have to build their strategy in an environment that is constantly evolving, as other players make purchases and bookings. A balance between the short term and the long term is at the heart of Splendor's thinking.
The game ends when a player reaches fifteen prestige points. Players must then complete the round in progress, so that everyone has played the same number of rounds, to preserve fairness.
Since the release of the first title in 2014, the range has expanded over the years. The Splendor collection includes an expansion box, Les cités de Splendor, which contains four expansions (Les Cités, Les Comptoirs, L'Orient and Les Bastions), Splendor Marvel and Splendor Duel.
Splendor was awarded a Bronze Tric Trac in 2014, and its duo version, Splendor Duel, was awarded a Silver Tric Trac in 2022. Like its predecessor, Splendor Duel has also met with great commercial success, ranking third in Philibert's best-seller list in 2022.
