La Crypte de la Créature, escape the hungry creature before your opponents
La Crypte de la Créature is the French edition of Fearsome Floors (Finstere Flure in German), designed by Friedemann Friese (also the designer of Power Grid and Factory Fun) and illustrated by Maura Kalusky. The goal: get your pawns out of an underground maze before your opponents, all while avoiding a hungry creature named Fluffy (Furunkulus), whose unpredictable movements keep players under constant pressure.
How to play La Crypte de la Créature
Each player has double-sided pawns, displaying different movement values on each side (for example 1 on one side, 6 on the other): after each move, the pawn is flipped, forcing players to plan ahead. Once all players have taken their turn, the creature moves according to strict rules: it moves in a straight line, turns as soon as it spots a player in its line of sight, and bounces off walls or certain obstacles. Players can push stone pillars to hide or, more deviously, to redirect the monster's path toward their opponents.
End of game and victory condition in La Crypte de la Créature
The game plays out as a race against the clock: if a pawn gets eaten, it is usually sent back to the starting point (or permanently eliminated at the end of the game, depending on the rules). The first player to get all of their pawns out of the maze wins.
