You have been lied to about contemporary history. During World War II, the Nazis nearly won thanks to their human sacrifices and invocations of the dark powers that lurk behind the door to other universes. Computer scientist Bob Howard (a pseudonym that nods to H. P. Lovecraft) was forcibly recruited by the Bureau of Atrocities, also known as the Central Laundry, because he had the misfortune of exploring archives that should have been erased and learning mathematical thaumaturgy. Not to mention that, in the process, he almost redrew his hometown of Wolverhampton.

In short, The Laundry, the most secret of the British secret services, ensures that certain theorems whose use could open up access to other universes where tentacular horrors lurk are never rediscovered. This does not exclude the most nitpicky bureaucracy. And Howard is one of its qualified agents.

The result of an unlikely cross between classic spy novels, the sprawling horrors of H.P. Lovecraft, and geek culture, the role-playing game The Laundry is adapted from Charles Stross's series of novels, which for more than 15 years has successfully combined British humor and terror by renewing the cosmic horror genre.

This “apocalypse-powered” role-playing game dissects the fiction of La Laverie in minute detail and allows you to recreate the atmosphere of Lovecraftian horror tinged with tongue-in-cheek humor. It is not essential to have read the novels (or, failing that, the encyclopedia) in order to play, although it is useful and recommended.
