Medieval Mayhem is a medieval fantasy hack of Apocalypse World where you play “heroes” bound together by circumstance, each driven by their own personal goals—who end up saving the world almost by accident while chasing treasure. Expect colorful adventures full of twists and turns, where you never know what lies beyond the next hill. Inspired by both classic fantasy anime (Record of Lodoss War, Slayers, Escaflowne) and more recent ones, Medieval Mayhem lets you create adventures packed with anime-style tropes, where laughter can quickly turn to tears. You may not be the heroes the people need to save the kingdom, but there’s no one else to do it—and you’re not about to back down.

Fortunately, you’ll be playing characters who are downright badass in their own fields—ranging from the classic Warrior, Mage, or Thief to more exotic roles such as the Ryujin (half-human, half-dragon) or the Visitor, a modern-day Earthling lost in this strange world. Some have truly unique abilities, like the Innocent’s divine intervention—or their tendency to get captured by the enemy—the Sorcerer and Shaman, each with their own distinct magic, or the Inventor, half mad scientist and half tinkerer.
