The P107 Half-track was developed by Citroën in 1934, then produced by the truck manufacturer Unic after Citroën went bankrupt. By 1940, more than 2,000 were in service with the French army.
During World War II, the Germans found a shortage of their own half-tracks, and Major Alfred Becker of the 21st Panzer Division suggested converting captured French vehicles and thus ordered the conversion of several hundred Unic half-tracks.
