German officers are competent and often experienced chiefs. In the German army, subordinate officers are trained in assuming the role of their immediate superiors, which allows them to use their initiative to take control of situations when necessary. A unit of officers consists of the officer himself and can understand up to two other men acting as his immediate assistants.
