The Major Arcana, rooted in a centuries-old tradition
Tarot de Marseille draws directly from the Jean Dodal trump cards, dating back to around 1720, and preserves the traditional Type II Tarot de Marseille aesthetic, recognizable by its bold woodcut-style engravings and primary color palette. Developed with Jared Kopf and John Wilson, Tarot de Marseille gathers only the 22 Major Arcana, from The Fool to The World, designed for single-card draws, short two- or three-card spreads, and narrative reflection rather than traditional trick-taking tarot games.
A pocket format, built for everyday use
Tarot de Marseille comes in a compact format of roughly 10 x 6.5 cm, smaller than a classic tarot deck but close in width to a standard playing card deck. Unusual for a historical reproduction, Tarot de Marseille features indices in two corners of each card, making it easier to read in a fan or spread. The deck ships in a refined tuck box, consistent with Art of Play's high-end aesthetic, and comes without a guidebook: Tarot de Marseille favors an intuitive, visual reading style, carried by the evocative imagery of the original woodcuts.
