The story centers on a young girl named Dorothy, who lives on the Kansas prairies and is whisked away to the magical Land of Oz by a tornado where she meest a memorable set of characters including the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, and the Cowardly Lion. Dorothy and her companions set off on a journey filled with fantastical encounters and adventure. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was the basis for the film The Wizard of Oz, which was released in 1939 to popular and critical acclaim.
