Black Seas: 6th Rates Squadron

Description

The 6th Rates were the smallest warships in the Royal Navy's classification system, which would have been generally adopted around the world. This category covered ships with 20 to 28 guns on a single deck.

Although they were not considered powerful enough to take their place alongside the large ships of the line, they performed well in their other duties and participated in smaller engagements where 1st and 2nd rate men-of-war were not required.

Among the best-known 6th Rate is the fictional ship HMS Surprise, commanded by author Patrick O'Brian's Captain Jack Aubrey, while C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower takes command of HMS Atropos in one of his novels.

Contains three ships (mix of resin, plastic and metal) and game aids.
