Description

During the first tour of combat duty of his squadron (Marine Fighter Squadron 214), he shot down 14 enemy fighter planes in 32 days. 
He flew with both the Flying Tigers and the Black Sheep! 
On January 3, 1944, he tied World War 1 ace Eddie Rickenbacker's record of 26 enemy planes destroyed, before he was himself shot down.
