The Tesla Box Escape Box is a high-end puzzle box designed by Puzzle Potato. The goal is to solve a series of approximately 51 mechanical and electronic challenges to light up a plasma ball built into the box and unlock a secret compartment.
The game’s universe pays homage to Nikola Tesla’s inventions through a fictional newspaper, “The Old Post,” which serves as the narrative entry point to the experience. What makes this box unique is its fully autonomous electronics: no batteries are required, as the system is self-powered by the player’s actions, setting it apart from classic paper-based escape games like Exit or Unlock!.
The experience begins as soon as you open “The Old Post,” which sets the scene and provides the first clues. The player then manipulates the birchwood box, activates mechanisms, moves magnetic pieces (38 hidden magnets are built into the structure), and interacts with electronic components to progress step by step.
Unlike a traditional board game, there are no turns or a game board: each puzzle solved unlocks the next one, in a specific order. An accompanying booklet includes a QR code leading to progressive clues as well as the complete solution in case of a dead end.
Solving all the steps allows you to turn on the plasma ball and reveal a secret compartment measuring approximately 4 x 4 x 4 cm, in which you can hide a small gift, a note, or a message before giving it to someone.
Once completed, the Tesla Box can be fully reset, allowing you to lend it to someone or solve it all over again.
