Mortars were sometimes in short supply, but those companies that did have them put them to good use. These light weapons proved ideal for jungle fighting being comparatively easy to move around in the dense under brush and quick to set-up. Once in position they were able to be called down as the enemy positions were located to deliver supporting fire for attacks, and for breaking up Japanese Banzai charges.
