Première République

Description

The game begins in the Autumn of 1792, three years after the start of the French Revolution. Louis XVI, King of the French remains alive but is imprisoned.
The newly declared French Republic finds itself at war with Austria and Prussia, whose armies are poised on the frontiers to invade.
The Coalition player will take the role of the Coalition states led by the Holy Roman Emperor and head of the Habsburg Austrian Empire, Francis II. The Coalition also includes Prussia, Great Britain and Bourbon Spain amongst other smaller states and anti-Republican insurgents.
The Coalition’s goal is to apply as much military pressure onto France as is needed to bring the young French Republic to political collapse, perhaps thereby causing a Bourbon restoration.

The French Player will take the role of the Government of the Republic, and will fight to resist the diverse and numerous internal and external anti-revolutionary threats, seeking to defeat them one by one. Striving for “liberté, egalité, fraternité“, delivered if necessary at bayonet point.
The Republic will also need to be careful not to allow the Republic’s finest young general (Bonaparte) too much success, or he may seek to overthrow the Republic and establish his own regime.

The game includes four scenarios:
  • The Early War (1792-1793)
  • The Late War (1795-1797)
  • Bonaparte in Italy (1796)
  • The campaign game (1792-1797)
