Heat: Legends, the AI Expansion for Heat: Pedal to the Metal by Days of Wonder
Heat: Legends is an expansion designed by Asger Harding Granerud and Daniel Skjold Pedersen for Days of Wonder, illustrated by Vincent Dutrait. It requires the base game, Heat: Pedal to the Metal, to play. Rather than adding new tracks, it focuses entirely on upgrading the automated drivers, known as Legends, used in solo play or to fill out a multiplayer race grid. Its originality lies in the increased intelligence of these drivers, now able to slipstream behind other cars and navigate corners more effectively.
Setup and Gameplay
The expansion replaces the base game's Legend deck with three new color-coded decks, corresponding to six combinable difficulty levels. Rival cards give specific personalities to certain automated drivers, while new Sponsorship cards enrich the Championship mode. Everything is compatible with other track expansions, allowing races of up to twelve cars.
Win Conditions and End of Game
As in the base game, the race ends when all players or Legends cross the finish line after the number of laps set by the track. The player who finishes first wins the race; in Championship mode, ranking points edge points accumulate across multiple races to determine the overall winner.
