Having witnessed an event that should never have been seen, you must escape alive from the sinister town of Mantis Falls, which is under the mafia’s control. You’re told that another witness will join you, and together, you’ll have to cooperate to survive the growing dangers lurking on the nighttime roads. Your ability to work with another player could be your greatest strength, but what if they aren’t who they claim to be?
Depending on the distribution of hidden roles, each game might consist solely of witnesses, meaning you’ll all have to survive together to win. Or, an assassin might be secretly hiding among you, subtly manipulating the situation and waiting for the right moment to strike.
Inspired by the dark worlds of film noir, Mantis Falls is a thematic journey that forces players to constantly weigh the value of cooperation against the implicit dangers of trust. Hand management and face-down card play combine with opportunities for betrayal to create a nuanced blend of strategy, player interaction, and suspicion. Each turn, players perform secret actions and devise hidden plans, but they also engage in deep conversations to discuss tactics, defend their choices, and bluff to protect carefully guarded secrets.
Mantis Falls is at times a competitive game where indecision and sacrifice intertwine, and at other times a cooperative game tested by doubt and mistrust. With a little insight, you might figure out which game you’re playing before it’s too late.
