The horrors of the Myth during the Revolution
The bloodthirsty crowd gathers in a chorus of jeers, while the guillotine falls without pause...
A time of struggle, intrigue, and horror. A divided country, where the rich enjoy luxury and fortune while the poor cannot afford a crust of bread. Where cries of anger and rage at the injustices of life grow louder and louder, driving the people to unite to overthrow the Ancien Régime and create a brighter and more hopeful future. But it is precisely with the abolition of this class society that hopes turn sour, paving the way for a period of terror to the sound of the dreaded guillotine.
The Reign of Terror is a two-part scenario set during the French Revolution, between 1789 and 1794. It can be played as a separate mini-campaign or as a historical interlude to be inserted into Chaosium's Terror on the Orient Express campaign.
- The first part takes place in 1789, at the dawn of the Revolution, and takes investigators into the catacombs of Paris. They will also have to brave the treacherous environment of court life, where horror arises from debauchery and depravity.
- The second part, set during the Reign of Terror, plunges them into a conspiracy where spies are searching for those who could destabilize the new regime. Caught between the chaos and dangers of Paris, they must find a way to prevent a nightmare that would plunge France and the rest of Europe into darkness.
This book contains a wealth of historical information to help the Keeper bring the Revolution to life, as well as new occupations for investigators and a list of scenario hooks to extend play and develop a more detailed and enduring campaign.
If you use it as a side story to Terror on the Orient Express, The Reign of Terror is essentially a “life-size clue” full of action. Players will encounter Count Fenarik at the height of his power, and these scenarios will shed new light on the original campaign.
However you play, this book offers six pre-generated investigators, a complete timeline of the Revolution, beautiful full-color maps of Paris, Versailles, and other locations, and a bibliography for further reading.
