Very easy to understand, but difficult to master; the variety of possible strategies makes Masdar a game of astonishing depth, whose fundamental mechanics immediately bring to mind chess.
Thousands of combinations are possible, and one lifetime won’t be enough to test all your strategic ideas. No two games of Masdar are ever the same: the dynamics of the game are notably different – but just as interesting – whether you’re playing with two, three or four players.
What you’ll be playing:
Designed by FibreTigre and illustrated by Josselin Grange, Masdar is a strategic card game for 2 to 4 players, played in two phases. Each player has an identical deck consisting of 10 cards.
In the first phase, each player must place their cards around the Source of Life, bearing in mind that their position will affect the rest of the game.
In the second phase, players compete against one another using the effects of their cards, with one objective: to eliminate or take out of play as many of their opponent’s cards as possible.
Each card has specific powers: some protect other cards, others move them, and finally, certain cards, such as the assassin, can kill.
The game’s aesthetics: Inspired by ancient Egypt, the project’s artistic vision aims to be consistent and symbolic.
