Fate of Cthulhu is a stand-alone game powered by the Fate Core System. No other books are needed to play. In this game, you’ll find:
  • Corruption mechanics that show how close your heroes are coming to the monsters they fight, and the monstrous abilities they gain!
  • Five detailed example timelines plus rules for running them and making your own.
  • A system for tracking key events leading up to the apocalypse that the players change through their actions and choices during play, including support for ripple effects and time paradoxes.
  • Modifications to stress and concession rules, including support for heroic last stands that sacrifice a character but help turn the timeline towards a better outcome.
  • A rituals and spells system that offers great power at a cost, treating spells as secrets of arcane Elder technology that must be sought out in play.

    Une excellente approche de Cthulhu en mode pulp, originale et pleine de bonnes idées ! Pour une fois les joueur.ses ne se posent pas en victimes impuissantes (même si ce sera très dur d'arriver à changer les choses, pour le meilleur, ou bien le pire...), mais en acteur.ices au potentiel réel. 

    La corruption du Mythe revêt ici une application inédite et change des poncifs habituels pour devenir quelque chose d'utile aux joueur.ses pendant leurs missions (bien qu'ils/elles puissent y succomber définitivement). Ce choix pourrait rebuter les puristes de l'horreur Cthulienne, mais pour moi c'est un vent de fraîcheur bienvenu qui dépoussière le Mythe.

    Orienté campagne (même si on doit pouvoir adapter en one-shot, mais l'intérêt n'est pas là), le principe d'altération de la ligne temporelle marche très bien, et Fate reste pour moi un système narratif incontournable, permettant une infinité de variations jubilatoires (avec 5 lignes temporelles dédiées à un Grand Ancien différent rien que dans le livre de base : Cthulhu, Dagon, Shub-Niggurath, Nyarlathotep et Le Roi en Jaune) !

    Vous l'aurez compris, ce jeu m'a séduit dès la première lecture et ma donné furieusement envie de lancer mes joueur.ses dans le passé pour sauver ce qui peut l'être de l'apocalypse !
