Together with your partner, you must answer a police interrogation by giving exactly the same answers.
In police custody
You and your partner are the prime suspects in a very serious case. Four evidence cards recount your day yesterday; it’s up to you to come up with an identical and credible alibi.
You have 3 minutes to coordinate with your partner, without taking any notes. Then the police return, separate you, and the interrogation begins: 8 questions, one by one, which you must answer at the same time as your partner, without exchanging another word. It’s easy to remember what you’ve said… but much harder to guess what the other person will answer when the question isn’t anticipated.
How do you play?
- Form pairs of suspects and appoint a police officer.
- Reveal 4 evidence cards that are common to everyone.
- The police prepare 8 trick questions and answer them to block off possible responses, whilst each pair devises their alibi.
- The police return, ask their questions; write your answers on the alibi sheet, question by question, without ever speaking to your partner again.
- Accumulate points in the hope of being cleared, or end up in prison for life!
A game of memory, deduction and teamwork
What makes GAV so tricky is that the police don’t just ask questions: they prepare their own answers in advance to trap the suspects, and can make you lose points if you give the same answer as the police. For their part, the suspects can attempt a Super Alibi: betting that their answer will match their partner’s to double their points, at the risk of losing points if the bet fails. And if the police doubt the credibility of an answer, they can even trigger a Verdict: the rest of the players become the jury and decide the fate of the pair!
Thrills guaranteed
GAV is one of those games where you think you know your partner inside out… until you discover, under the pressure of the interrogation, that you never quite think exactly the same way. Between the fits of laughter when answers go in completely opposite directions and the tense silence when it’s time to reveal your answer, every game delivers its share of twists and turns and blatant bad faith. Four different game modes (playing as a full team, blind, in narrative mode or with a forensic team) ensure that no two interrogations are ever the same.
