It combines word-making like in Scrabble™ with deck-building mechanics like in Dominion™. We create words, and these words allow us to buy new letters. The deck thus formed to our liking allows us to create new words that score more and more, in order to succeed in obtaining celebrity cards that will be counted down at the end of the game. The most famous player at the end of the game is declared the winner.
There are several ways to win: make short words that pay off, make the longest words possible, or play on the abilities of each card, such as the double-count word, to get the highest score possible and gain access to the most coveted celebrity cards.
Paperback is now in its 7th edition in its original version, with over 40,000 copies sold worldwide!
Paperback in French is both a translation and an adaptation: the rules booklet and all the cards have been translated (even the celebrity cards), and the distribution of letters and digrams has been adapted to the French language.
