Throughout the game Recall, you will lead your tribe, explore the lands, and discover traces of ancient civilizations in order to learn from them. On your turn, you can either:
• Use a key card to activate an action space, or
• Use Recall to produce resources and retrieve your key cards.
When you use a key card, you activate the abilities of the key card itself and the effects of the chosen action box. The chosen combination of key card and action box will therefore determine what you can do on your turn: populate the lands, move your followers, explore new regions, and build workshops, vaults, or monuments. During the game, you will improve your tribe by acquiring new key cards, upgrading your action boxes, or collecting ability stones and relics.
An important part of the game involves searching for traces of ancient civilizations at excavation sites. These sites unlock access to the abilities and gadgets of ancient tribes, as well as offering important opportunities to score points.
Three times during the game, players must choose one of two paths, with the chosen path offering an immediate bonus and increasing one of the end-game scoring categories.
Using the optional digital companion website, players can archive their tribes at the end of the game, allowing other players to discover them as ancient civilizations in their own games.
