In Heroes: Write & Conquer, each player chooses their own game board belonging to a specific faction.
The game lasts 16 rounds.
At the beginning of a round, the first player chooses four actions from five that all players will perform during that round. The first player writes the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the boxes for the selected actions, one number per box. The number determines the order in which the action is performed and its level. Actions are resolved in ascending numerical order, with the highest numbers representing the most powerful actions.
There are three types of actions in the game:
Collecting wood, iron, and gold allows you to add as many resources to your inventory as the level of the action. Resources are needed for construction and recruitment.
The build and recruit action allows you to construct structures and hire units of a corresponding level. Structures grant you unique effects, while units are necessary for fighting other players, monsters, or claiming fortresses and artifacts.
Finally, movement allows you to move to other sectors based on the number of movement points you have available in that turn. Once all players have finished moving, different types of combat can be triggered. Players can fight each other if they are in the same sector, or they can claim a fortress or artifact in that sector. They can also fight monsters to earn rewards. To do this, they spend combat units and compare their strength.
At the end of the game, players count their victory points for structures built, fortresses and artifacts claimed, resources collected, and monsters defeated.
The player with the most VP wins.
