Torres Family features two ways to play, with the first being similar to the 2000 Spiel des Jahres winner Torres, but with simplified rules. In this scenario, "Who will be the new king?", players trying to impress the king by building tall towers and being in as many castles as possible.

In the second scenario, "Impress the King's Envoys!", players seek to be close to the King's Envoys in order to present their buildings. If you build for an envoy, you get double the number of points, but this isn't easy. When building you have to pay attention to the color of the fields as not every tower may be built on every field.
