There’s no game board or traditional game setup: you move from puzzle to puzzle, examining the props and reading the cards together. Most puzzles are solved by finding a three-digit code, which you enter on the famous decoder disc. This confirms (or refutes) the clue, then directs you to an Adventure card that moves the story forward. You can write on, fold or cut up the props: anything goes to succeed!
The game contains two distinct yet interconnected adventures: first, you must solve *The Manor of Rochecruel*, which, once solved, unlocks the materials for The Sweet Factory. A help booklet provides three levels of clues for each puzzle (ranging from a simple hint to the full solution), so that no one ever gets stuck. The game ends once the final puzzle has been solved, and the adventure can only be played once.
