Codenames is a game of association for 2 to 8 players (or even more!). To find out which code names your informants are hiding behind, listen carefully to the clues given by the two master spies and be careful not to contact an enemy informant, or worse... the fearsome assassin! If a team is unlucky enough to come across this villainous character, the game is over and the other team wins the mission.
The two master spies know the identities of the 25 informants hidden in the crowd, but their agents only see their code names, symbolized in the game by words.
The teams compete to be the first to make contact with all their informants. To do this, the master spies give one and only one clue word that could refer to several code names. Their agents then try to guess the code names of their color (blue or red) and avoid those of the other team. And above all, everyone wants to avoid the assassin!
The first team to identify all of its Informants wins the game.
We're glad you asked! This isn't just a reissue with a more attractive look, but a thoughtful update based on what players have enjoyed (and sometimes requested) over the years.
