Deckers: Duplicity, a cyberpunk expansion featuring a two-faced AI
Deckers: Duplicity is the first expansion for the cooperative cyberpunk game Deckers, designed by Richard Wilkins and illustrated by Lukas Siegmon, distributed in France by Intrafin. It introduces a new adversary, the SMC Janus, a two-faced artificial intelligence inspired by the Roman god Bifrons: each round, Janus alternates between two states that alter the permeability of a wall—the Veil of Bifrons—forcing players to continually rethink their movement plans within the network.
The expansion’s originality also lies in its two new Decker characters, Aki and River, whose double-sided profile cards can be flipped during the game to reveal an entirely different set of special abilities, bringing unprecedented versatility to the playable hackers.
Integration and Gameplay
To incorporate Duplicity into a game, players can choose to play as Aki or River from among the available characters and pit their team against SMC Janus rather than the antagonists from the core game. The expansion provides two new ready-to-play missions that specifically take advantage of the state changes of Janus and the Veil of Bifrons, but all of the content (characters, Objective cards, Advanced Command cards) can also be freely mixed with elements from the core game to vary gameplay without following a specific scenario.
The seven new Objective cards and six Advanced Command cards enhance existing decks without altering the overall structure of the game rounds.
Victory Conditions and End of the Game
As in the core game, players of Duplicity win cooperatively if they manage to complete their mission objectives before the SMC takes control of the network. The ever-changing nature of Janus and his wall adds an extra layer of difficulty, as viable paths may close or open from one round to the next, throwing previously established plans into question.
Since all of the expansion’s content is designed to integrate seamlessly with the core game, there is no fixed campaign structure to follow: each mission can be played independently.
Requires the core game.
