Ars Magica: Definitive Edition, the world of the medieval magic roleplaying game
Ars Magica: Definitive Edition is the core rulebook for the Ars Magica roleplaying game, published by Atlas Games. Players take on members of the Order of Hermes, a secret society of wizards, in a 13th-century Mythic Europe where magic and real history intertwine.
The game is built around an original magic system known as "Noun+Verb": magi combine 5 Techniques (Create, Destroy…) and 10 Forms (Fire, Body…) to cast spells, whether prepared in advance or improvised on the spot. Another defining feature: the game is played in "troupe" style, with each player controlling several characters — a magus, a companion and grogs — and sharing some roles usually reserved for the game master.
Twenty years after the release of the 5th Edition, this "definitive" version keeps the original text while incorporating all the revisions and material published since (over 50 supplements), in a fully revamped, full-colour volume with updated layout and artwork.
