Les Éclairtout: Fantasy takes the original ‘Search & Find’ concept from the game Les Éclairtout and transports it into a new world entirely devoted to fantasy.

In Les Eclairtout Fantasy, a ‘Search’ card indicates, at the start of each round, the character or object that everyone must find. The hourglass is turned over and everyone begins inspecting their own board at the same time. The lantern moves across the illustration, revealing only a small area at a time: so you must scan the scene efficiently, recognise the target in different positions and, above all, remember how many instances you’ve spotted before time runs out.
Once the search is over, each player removes their lantern and secretly sets their counter to the number of targets they think they’ve discovered. Everyone then reveals their answer before turning over the Search card. This shows the actual number of hidden items and their positions. Depending on the number announced, the player’s token moves forward the number of squares represented by the stars corresponding to their result. Finding the exact number even earns an extra square. An estimate higher than the actual number, however, is severely penalised: the token does not move at all.
The game offers several difficulty levels. The ‘Children’s’ mode allows more time for searching, whilst the ‘Normal’ and ‘Difficult’ levels speed up the Moon, and time limits of 45 or 30 seconds can turn the search into a real test of visual speed. A ‘Quadrant’ variant even blocks off part of the board to keep the searches fresh. Finally, a competitive mode allows players to play against one another: after five rounds, the pawn that has advanced the furthest wins the game.
