Breton or Norman : The Battle of Mont Saint-Michel

Description

Breton ou Normand: The Battle for Mont Saint-Michel Is On!

Does Mont Saint-Michel belong to Brittany or Normandy? This time, you get to settle the debate… on the board!

In Breton ou Normand: The Battle for Mont Saint-Michel, build your path and try to reach the famous island before your opponents. But crossing the bay is no walk in the park: quicksand slows you down, the tide shifts the paths, and standing stones hide surprising secret passages. And there’s one small catch: only one of the Mont’s four entrances will lead you to victory…

Not Every Path Leads to Victory

Choose your character, Breton or Norman, and set off across the bay! The board takes shape as you play: every tile placed opens up new possibilities and affects everyone’s route.

Will you build the most direct route, take a detour to gather valuable information, or make life harder for your opponents? Each turn, you must choose between building and moving. While you’re preparing your path, someone else might just race ahead!

How Do You Play?

On your turn, choose just one action:
  • Place a Path tile to extend the routes across the board.
  • Roll the die to try to move your character… or face the whims of the bay!

Roll a number and move forward, get caught in quicksand and lose precious time, or roll a wave to move a tile already on the board. Had the perfect route planned? A single tide could turn your plans upside down.

To win, reach Mont Saint-Michel through the correct entrance. When playing in teams, one player’s victory wins the game for their whole team!

The Sheep Know Something…

Four entrances—North, South, East and West—but only one leads to victory. To find out which one, visit the sheep scattered around the board: each hides a clue about the entrance it faces.

Secretly check your clue and keep your intentions to yourself. Your movements might attract attention, though… Can you use what you’ve learned without leading your opponents to the answer?

Feeling bold? You can also head straight for the Mont without consulting the sheep. But beware of choosing the wrong entrance: you’ll be sent back to your starting space and have to skip a turn!

A Rivalry to Enjoy with Family and Friends

With two players, face your rival in a head-to-head battle for the Mont. With three, it’s every player for themselves. With four, split into two teams, Bretons versus Normans, or choose the free-for-all variant and let the alliances… and betrayals begin.

Created by Anaëlle Tarot and Rémi Le Calvez, a couple from Normandy and Brittany, and illustrated by Anaëlle, Breton ou Normand turns a famous regional rivalry into a playful showdown.

Choose your side, build your path… and may the best player claim the Mont!
