Aeon's End: The Caverns, a cooperative expansion featuring the “Friends and Foes” module
Aeon's End: The Caverns adds two new mages, Alcheia and Quilius, as well as a new Nemesis, the Absorbing Specter, whom players must face together to protect Gravehold.
The uniqueness of this expansion lies in the introduction of the “Friends and Foes” module: it allows players to add an ally, Joanna the Merchant, and/or a battlefield opponent, the Storm, to any game of Aeon’s End, thereby adjusting the difficulty and dynamics of the game regardless of the main Nemesis being faced.
Integration and Gameplay
To incorporate The Caverns into a game, players choose one of the two new mages, Alcheia or Quilius, and optionally select the Absorbing Spectre Nemesis as their primary opponent. If they wish to use the Friends and Enemies module, they place the board for the chosen Friend and/or Enemy on the table, shuffle its deck of four specific cards face down, then reveal the top card, which remains visible and active until it is resolved.
The corresponding Turn Order card is then added to the game’s general Turn Order deck: when it is drawn, the effect visible on top of the Friend’s or Enemy’s deck is triggered, before the card is discarded and replaced by the next one. The seven new Market cards, including the Electinium gem, expand the purchasing options available during the game.
Victory Conditions and End of the Game
As in any game of Aeon’s End, players win cooperatively if they manage to defeat the Nemesis before it destroys the crystal protecting Gravehold or eliminates all the mages. The addition of an Enemy like the Storm increases the difficulty by multiplying negative effects, while a Friend like Joanna offers additional support to players in trouble.
The seven new Treasures provided by the expansion can also be incorporated into games played in Expedition mode, where they influence the progression of a campaign across multiple sessions.
Requires the core game.
