Aeon's End: The Abyss, a cooperative expansion centered on Xaxos and the Reliquary
Aeon's End: The Abyss introduces a new mage from the Rift, Xaxos the Apprentice, as well as a formidable new Nemesis, the Reliquary, accompanied by 21 cards unique to it.
What makes this expansion unique is that the character of Xaxos appears in three playable incarnations via the Friends and Foes module: Xaxos the Arcane Assistant as an ally, and Xaxos the Traitor as a battlefield opponent, allowing players to vary the dynamics of the same character depending on the role he plays in the game.
Integration and Gameplay
To incorporate *The Abyss* into a game, players add the mage Xaxos the Apprentice to the available selection and can pit their teams against the Reliquary as the main Nemesis. If they wish to use the Friends and Foes module, they choose to play as Xaxos the Arcane Deputy as an ally and/or face Xaxos the Traitor as a battlefield enemy, each with their own deck of cards to resolve throughout the game.
The new reserve cards introduced by the expansion—including 4 gems, 3 relics, and 3 spells—enrich the shared market, while a wide selection of treasures can be incorporated into games played in Expedition mode.
Victory Conditions and End of the Game
As in any game of Aeon’s End, players win the cooperative game if they manage to defeat the Nemesis, the Relic Keeper, before she destroys the crystal protecting Gravehold or eliminates all the mages.
The addition of Xaxos the Traitor as a battlefield enemy increases the difficulty of the confrontation, while Xaxos the Arcane Assistant, as an ally, can provide valuable support to mages in trouble. The treasures provided by the expansion also influence the progression of a campaign played in Expedition mode, enriching the gameplay over the long term.
Requires the core game.
