L'écho de la nuit

Description

"He warned me. Right at the end of the track, just before the silence, there is something. I turned it up. It was there. And it listened back."
Notebook found in a studio in the 18th arrondissement, October 1989. Unsigned.

Paris, 1989. Techno is rising out of derelict warehouses and industrial cellars. Bass that shakes the plaster off the walls, nights that refuse to end, a generation dancing on the edge. And underneath the rhythm, far down, something very old is waking up.

A producer dies in his studio. The police will file the case as an overdose, because that is easier to put away. But his machines play back voices nobody ever recorded, the air in the room smells of a coming storm, and a one-of-a-kind instrument has gone missing. At the same time, a handful of believers, convinced since the 1970s that God has taken refuge inside the networks, think they have finally found his frequency.

Your agency gets the call. Find the instrument, make sense of the death, and above all close what has been opened. The trail runs down from illegal clubs into dead metro stations, where the signal carries best. Which is exactly where you should not be listening.

WHAT IS IN THE BOOK

A complete scenario, from the crime scene to the abandoned tunnels, for two to three sessions of play.

The technomancers (voie des technomanciens), a new playable Strange Path: the ones who do not repair machines, the ones who pray to them.

Colour illustrations by Fletch, in the art direction of the line.

WHAT YOU NEED TO PLAY

"L'écho de la nuit" is a supplement. The Étrange France core rulebook, Livre Univers, is required to run it.

ABOUT ÉTRANGE FRANCE

An occult investigation roleplaying game. Your group plays the agents of a discreet unit handling the files the French Republic would rather bury: disappearances that make no sense, deaths never properly explained, witnesses who describe impossible things. Because under the Paris of 1989, the fae, the alchemists, the vampires and some very old gods are running their own affairs.

LANGUAGE

Text: French. No English edition planned.
