Archipelago retraces the majestic era of archipelago discovery across the globe from 1492 (Christopher Columbus' discovery of the West Indies) to 1797 (colonisation of Tahiti).
Each player takes on the role of an explorer and their team, commissioned by a European nation to discover, colonise and exploit the archipelagos. These missions are to be carried out diplomatically, responding both to the needs of the local population and to regular requests from the continent. It is therefore necessary to respect the archipelago and its indigenous people, at the risk of seeing the natives revolt and end up in a war of independence. The boundaries between expansionism and humanism, economy and respect for local values, knowledge transfer and excessive industrialisation are not always easy to find.
The balance of the archipelago will therefore depend largely on the willingness of each player to make these islands happy and productive colonies, or, on the contrary, to exploit the resources and natives outrageously, leading to chaos and revolt.
To complicate matters, there may be an independence fighter or a pacifist among you. Both will try to tip the balance towards revolt or peace, respectively.
Are you ready to take on your role and set off to discover Archipelago?
Archipelago is the first semi-cooperative game of exploration, management, optimisation, negotiation, diplomacy... and dirty tricks, for 2 to 5 players, with adjustable duration, in which no two games are ever the same.
You will compete with other great explorers, each with their own goals and priorities. But you will need to work together to preserve the balance of the archipelago by avoiding revolt and independence at all costs... or not.
