On to Berlin! covers the entire European and North African theaters of World War II, from 1939 to 1945, allowing two players to reenact the entire conflict in a single evening.
The game’s originality lies in its card system, where the number of cards that can be played each turn depends directly on the resource zones controlled by each side, rather than on a random hand, paving the way for unprecedented alternative scenarios such as a German invasion of France before that of Poland.
Setup involves placing the map depicting the European and North African theaters, as well as each side’s starting forces based on the situation in 1939. On their turns, players play cards of four main types:
The game ends after a number of turns representing the entire conflict from 1939 to 1945, with victory conditions assessed based on territorial control and the strategic objectives achieved by each side at the end of the game.
Thanks to its fast pace and relatively simple rules for a strategic wargame of this scale, a full game typically takes three to eight hours to play, depending on the source—a far cry from the dozens of hours usually required for classic simulations of the European theater.
