Daimyo: A Mass Battle Samurai Wargame is a mass-battle wargame rulebook, written by Alexander Smith and published by Osprey Games (the "Osprey Wargames" series). It takes players to Japan's Sengoku Jidai (the Age of Warring States) to wage large-scale samurai battles.
Designed as a fast-play, "beer and pretzels" style game, it lets you resolve large engagements in a single afternoon.
The game is miniature-agnostic (and scale-agnostic): this product is a rulebook and does not include miniatures. It is played with your own figures, at any scale (from 6/10mm "epic" to 28/32mm).
Core mechanics:
- Stat dice: units use different dice types (D6, D8, or D10) based on their quality; a roll of 5+ is always a success.
- Contingent command: units are grouped into contingents activated together, reflecting the clan-based army structure.
- Commander abilities: each army is led by a general (Daimyo) with unique abilities.
