Manage businesses, invest in stocks, and optimize the delivery of goods in 1870s Chicago.

After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the brave residents of Chicago set out to rebuild their once-thriving city, and that's exactly what they did. Over the next 60 years, Chicago experienced an economic golden age, making such significant progress that it hosted the World's Fair in 1893, followed shortly thereafter by the celebration of its century of progress at the World's Fair in 1933.

Many of the brands known and loved today were born in Chicago during this period: Oscar Mayer, Kraft, Quaker Oats, Nabisco, Swift & Co, Armour & Co, Schwinn Bicycles, Charles Schwab, and many others made their home in this imposing and daring city.

In this unique fusion of 18xx-style stock market manipulation mechanics and European-style gameplay, players create companies, trade stocks, hire employees, equip their factories, produce goods, and sell them for delivery to homes across the Midwest.

Although Chicago 1875: City of the Big Shoulders Master Print offers great strategic depth and rewarding gameplay, it does so in a shorter time frame than most complex economic games. Players play only five rounds (also called decades) in about two and a half hours.

Each decade consists of five distinct phases: a stock market phase where players can buy and sell stocks; a construction phase where players rebuild the city of Chicago by placing action tiles on the board; an action phase where companies send their partners to make deals across Chicago; an exploitation phase where companies purchase resources, produce goods, and ship them out of Chicago; and finally a cleanup phase where the board is prepared for the next decade.

At the end of the fifth decade, the game ends. Players then trade in the stocks they have purchased during the game for cash, are rewarded for the public objectives they have achieved over the five decades of play, and tally their money to determine who is the greatest resident of Chicago.
