Villainous: Success at Any Cost is a standalone expansion for the Disney Villainous series. This set introduces two new villains known for betraying the heroes of their own stories: Prince Hans from *Frozen* and Ernesto de la Cruz from *Coco*. Each pursues their own unique, asymmetrical objective, just like in previous installments of the series: to defeat or to conceal, depending on the character chosen.
What makes this set unique is that it’s fully playable as a standalone two-player game—requiring no other expansions from the series—while remaining fully compatible with villains from other sets for four-player games.
Setup involves placing each villain’s Kingdom board, along with their Villain card deck and Destiny card deck, then distributing the Power tokens, which serve as currency for playing cards. Prince Hans uses ice rings to gradually cover the action symbols on his kingdom: once sixteen rings have been placed, his board flips over to reveal the Frozen Kingdom.
Ernesto de la Cruz, for his part, must manipulate six Photo cards to flip them face down one by one, thereby erasing the memory of the one whose glory he has usurped. As in any game of Villainous, the Fate action allows a player to reveal two cards from an opponent’s deck and play one against them, adding constant pressure to each villain’s progress.
Prince Hans wins the game by defeating Anna and Elsa while they are on a completely frozen area of his kingdom, with all four of his action symbols covered by rings. Ernesto de la Cruz, on the other hand, wins as soon as all six Photo cards in his kingdom have been turned face down, thereby sealing his legend at the expense of the truth.
Each villain therefore has a completely different victory condition, which forces opponents to adapt their Destiny cards accordingly to delay or prevent the villain from achieving their goal.
